CASE STUDY
With the opening of UBS Arena in 2021, the NY Islanders saw an opportunity to rethink how fans experienced retail. The new Isles Lab Team Store needed to do more than just look modern—it had to perform. Long lines and slow checkouts were common in traditional team shops, leading to frustrated fans and lost sales. The goal was clear: reduce wait times, eliminate abandoned purchases, and create a retail experience that matched the speed and energy of game day.
The Islanders partnered with EXO to deploy five RFID-powered checkout stations built into the counters of their cash wraps. Instead of scanning items one by one, customers set their bag of merchandise in the EXO station, where every RFID-tagged product is instantly detected and processed. Fans simply set their bag in the EXO station, confirm their total, and pay.
The integration was seamless. EXO worked with the store’s existing POS (powered by Retail Cloud), eliminating the need for a system overhaul. The result: faster checkouts, shorter lines, increased sales, and a retail flow that keeps pace with game day crowds—without sacrificing control or visibility.

Faster checkout led to measurable improvements across the board:
“EXO has helped us reduce our queues, allowing customers to get through the store in under 5 minutes.”
