Yankee Stadium used its existing EXO RFID checkout system to support Jay-Z's three-night concert series
When Yankee Stadium hosted Jay-Z for three consecutive sold-out concerts this July, the venue didn’t need to invest in a new retail checkout system.
Instead, it relied on the same EXO RFID checkout platform already used throughout Yankees game-day retail—demonstrating how a well-designed RFID deployment can continue delivering value long after the initial installation.
Serving approximately 45,000 fans each night, the three-day concert series required a completely new merchandise operation featuring products from multiple vendors, a new product catalog, and different retail traffic patterns than a typical Yankees game.
Working alongside Legends Hospitality, Roc Nation, RetailCloud, and participating merchandise vendors, EXO transformed the existing RFID environment into a high-volume concert retail operation without replacing the venue’s existing checkout infrastructure.
Preparing an Entirely New Merchandise Program
Preparation began well before opening night.
EXO collected and standardized product information from multiple vendors, created UPCs where needed, printed and distributed approximately 120,000 RFID tags, and coordinated warehouse tagging for roughly 26,500 items that could not be source tagged before arriving at the stadium.
Inside the venue, 25 existing RFID-enabled checkout stations were consolidated into the three primary merchandise stores expected to process the majority of concert merchandise sales. The complete concert assortment was then loaded into the existing EXO environment and thoroughly tested before fans arrived.
At checkout, cashiers simply placed merchandise into the RFID read zone, allowing every item in the purchase to be identified instantly before completing payment through the venue’s existing RetailCloud POS system.
Built for More Than Baseball
While the project showcased EXO’s ability to support fast, RFID-powered checkout for a major entertainment event, it also highlighted something equally important: the flexibility of RFID infrastructure.
The checkout stations installed for Yankees game-day retail weren’t purchased specifically for concerts. Yet with the right software configuration, product preparation, and operational planning, the same infrastructure was quickly repurposed to support one of the stadium’s largest non-baseball merchandise programs.
Rather than deploying a separate checkout solution, the venue simply leveraged the RFID platform already in place.

An Investment That Keeps Delivering
Most stadiums and arenas don’t host just one type of event.
They host professional sports, concerts, festivals, college games, international matches, and special events throughout the year. Each brings different merchandise, different vendors, and different operational requirements.
That’s where EXO delivers long-term value.
Instead of deploying new checkout technology for every event, venues can adapt the same RFID platform to support new merchandise programs and changing retail operations—maximizing the return on an investment that’s already in place.
Because EXO isn’t just built for opening day. It’s built for everything that comes after.
