Built for a Different Kind of Retail
Twice Threaded, a curated buy, sell and trade resale boutique in Long Beach, California, has deployed EXO’s RFID retail platform to modernize the customer experience while simplifying store operations.
Located in Belmont Shore, Twice Threaded offers a carefully curated collection of men’s and women’s clothing, footwear and accessories, with new merchandise arriving daily. Unlike traditional apparel retailers, inventory is constantly changing as items move through a six-week lifecycle that includes scheduled markdowns before new inventory replaces them.
That dynamic retail model presents challenges beyond a typical point-of-sale deployment. Every item is unique, pricing changes throughout its lifecycle, promotions vary, and inventory is constantly being bought, sold and replenished. The retailer needed a solution capable of handling that complexity while delivering a faster, more convenient checkout experience.
A Custom RFID Platform with Shopify at its Core
EXO partnered with Twice Threaded to design and deploy an RFID solution built specifically around those workflows. The installation includes two RFID-powered self-checkout stations, RFID inventory management, RFID loss detection at the store exits, integrated payment processing, merchandise tagging support and a custom Shopify integration developed to support the retailer’s unique operating model.
Rather than relying on a standard integration, EXO worked closely with Twice Threaded to develop custom pricing and discount logic within Shopify. The solution automatically manages rotating markdown schedules, promotional discounts and loyalty programs while accurately processing transactions through the existing Shopify platform. The result is a seamless checkout experience that reflects the way the store already operates instead of forcing the retailer to change its business processes.
One RFID Platform. Multiple Retail Functions.
At checkout, customers simply place their RFID-tagged merchandise in the station, where multiple items are identified instantly without individually scanning barcodes.
Behind the scenes, the same RFID tags provide item-level inventory visibility throughout the store while supporting automated loss detection by identifying unpaid merchandise as it approaches the exit.
By combining checkout, inventory management and loss detection on a single RFID platform, Twice Threaded benefits from one integrated solution rather than multiple disconnected technologies.
The deployment also allows store associates to spend less time processing transactions and more time assisting customers—an important advantage in a boutique retail environment where personalized service is central to the shopping experience.

Expanding What's Possible with RFID Retail
While EXO has become well known for powering RFID retail at professional sports venues, arenas and major live events, the Twice Threaded deployment demonstrates how the platform can be adapted to specialty retail environments with unique operational requirements.
Whether serving thousands of fans during a game or managing the constantly changing inventory of a resale boutique, the objective remains the same: using RFID to create faster checkout, better inventory visibility and smarter retail operations.
